We’re wrapping up our series of pulp films with 1996’s The Phantom, a film that both of us remembered seeing, but neither of us really remembered. Once we started watching, we remembered why: It’s extremely boring, even though Billy Zane is charming as all get-out.

Heya guys! In case no one told you yet, “For Those Who Came In Late” is thing from the Phantom comic strip. Every time a new storyline starts, they do a quick recap of the GWW’s origin, prefaced by that phrase. It’s been done for decades and they still do it today. So that’s why that’s in the movie, as shout out to the folks who did or still follow the newspaper strip. FYI!

  2. the only thing I recall about the history around this movie, is that Bruce Campbell was in the running for the lead for a long time. I don’t know if he’d have made it any better, but I think him as The Phantom, and Zane as the baddy would have been an interesting contrast.

So, I know I’m many years behind at this point, but I’m listening to old episodes of Movie Fighters, and I don’t know if I can keep going. You guys don’t seem to actually like anything! I’m not arguing for “The Phantom” being GOOD in a critical sense, but to say it’s boring is unbelievable! I find this movie to be enjoyable, fun, & high-energy! It’s light fare to be sure, but it’s a ton of fun!
